WORK EXPERIENCE

November 2021-June 2024 Miami Herald: education reporter

  • Built relationships with community members to gain their trust and tell their stories.

  • Connected with readers often to receive feedback and react to changing challenges.

  • Launched and wrote a weekly newsletter, participated in live events and worked on other initiatives to attract and retain hundreds of paying subscribers. 

  • Worked with various teams across the newspaper to manage long-term critical projects with limited resources.

  • Reported news on more than a dozen educational institutions in South Florida, including universities, colleges and two of the largest school districts in the country.  

December 2018-November 2021 el Nuevo Herald: web producer and bilingual reporter

  • Helped manage all of the newspaper’s social media accounts and other content management software.

  • Produced and starred in a weekly broadcast news show.

  • Wrote multiple daily articles in English and Spanish with strong visuals and interviews on a timely basis. 

August 2018-December 2018 Miami Herald: political intern

  • Helped with enterprise reporting about the candidates and issues concerning the 2018 gubernatorial race in Florida.

June 2018-August 2018 Tampa Bay Times: breaking news intern

  • Wrote news articles on various topics including crime, immigration, and business.

AWARDS

  • Received first place for Beat Reporting in Education in the Sunshine State Awards issued by Florida’s Society of Professional Journalists in 2022.

  • Participated in the wide-ranging coverage of the 2021 collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside that ultimately received a Pulitzer Prize.
